Plans for 100-space child care centre to be built in North Rockhampton

The new centre would cater for up to 106 children from 0 to 36 months and employ 19 staff. It’s one of many planned for the region. FULL LIST.

As one child care centre nears the end of construction just down the road, another one has been proposed in North Rockhampton.

New documents were lodged with Rockhampton Regional Council this month for a child care centre with a street-front café at 50 Main Street, Park Avenue.

The site was previously approved for a child care centre in 2016 however this lapsed and some minor changes have since been made.

The proposal also includes a street-front café that will be open to the public, aiming to provide food and drinks to those dropping off their children in the morning.

The proposed development would employ 19 staff and accommodate up to 106 children from 0-36 months.

The centre will include a landscaped external play area, 31 car parks, upper level training area and various rooms.

The subject site is on five freehold sites, one of which contains a house with the rest vacant land.

Tiverton Investments purchased the multi-lot site in 2007 for a recorded $226,000.

Construction is underway at Green Leaves Early Learning at Stockland Rockhampton, on the site of the former Colonial Mart near Mandalay Medical Centre.

The centre is expected to open by early 2022 and has 100 spaces for children from six weeks to six years.

Rockhampton Grammar School also lodged plans to expand with a new two-storey building at their early learning centre, which would allow for 44 more students and six more staff.

Another centre was proposed earlier in the year on Tanby Road, Yeppoon, for 115-places and The Real Group lodged plans for a child care service at its Barmaryee site.

Rockhampton-based company Natural Wonders is also expanding with a third centre, to be located in Parkhurst.

The 152-space centre will start construction in early 2022, to be completed in January 2023.

Genius Childcare, Allenstown, is also expanding, increasing its capacity by 59 extra children, taking its total to 132 children.
