Demolition of houses and structures in the path of the future Rockhampton Ring Road has begun.

Houses, sheds, cattle yards, tanks, concrete slabs and associated structures are all among the demolition works earmarked at properties in Parkhurst and Pink Lily as early works on the project steam ahead.

Rockhampton company BT Builders was awarded the demolition contract and began on-site works last month.

A total of 17 properties will be demolished while the 4US radio station will be relocated to the Dreamtime Cultural Centre.

Real estate data shows the Department of Transport and Main Roads has been buying properties in the ring road corridor since as early as 2015.

Sale prices are only available for eight of the properties and total a combined $7,905,750 (see a breakdown of the prices in the table below).

The Department of Transport and Main Roads responded to a request for information around the demolition works.

The first property on the demolition list was 10 Osborne Road which is in the footprint of the project works on Ridgelands Road, with work starting on February 6.

10 Osborne Road, Pink Lily, was the first property to be cleared in the demolition list for Rockhampton Ring Road works.

The demolition and relocation program is scheduled to be completed by mid-year.

TMR advised the order of the program may change depending on “business requirements and availability of specialist support services”.

TMR declined to provide the list of properties; however the list has been obtained by this publication from public tender documents.

The tender documents also outline conditions for the works, stating the contractor shall “leave properties in a clean and tidy condition, free from rubbish and debris”.

The ground is also to be levelled and all holes backfilled and compacted.

All materials and asbestos must be removed from the properties with care and in compliance with current asbestos regulations with no materials to be buried on site.

S. A. S Asbestos Consulting has been awarded the contract for the asbestos hygienist.
