Kindy proud of its letter from Queen Elizabeth

WHAT started as natural curiosity for Maddison Clarke and her friends has resulted in very special letter from the Queen of England this week.

WHAT started as natural curiosity for Maddison Clarke and her friends has resulted in very special letter from the Queen of England this week.

After reading the book, The Queen's Knickers, the children of the Farm Street Early Learning Centre became fascinated by the royal highness.

Director of the centre, Glennys Correa, said she had been taken away by the children's interest in the Queen.

"They had so many questions about her. It was really wonderful to see something capture their imaginations like this," she said.

Ms Correa said the staff at the centre used this to not only entertain the kids, but to also educate them.

"We were able to show them where England was, how far away it is and explain a little bit about the Commonwealth," she said.

But it was the quirkier side of things that really got to the children, as they set about making their own knickers, inspired by some of the designs of the book.

Ms Correa then sent the designs to the Queen along with a few more questions on behalf of the kids.

While Ms Correa had explained that a response may take a while given the distance the parcel had to travel, she was surprised to receive an official reply in just six weeks.

"It's been amazing. It was a great surprise for everyone here and it really means a lot to the kids," she said.

The letter has been given pride of place on the door of the centre's main room.
