Gladstone Ports Corporation has lost its CEO after a shock resignation overnight.

Gladstone Ports Corporation CEO Craig Haymes advised staff on Wednesday evening through a media release it would be his last day with the corporation.

Chief operating officer Kim Gebers has been appointed acting CEO.

“I have enjoyed my time here and I would like to thank you for being such a great team to work with,” Mr Haymes said.

“I appreciate all of the support and encouragement you have given me during my time here, and I wish you all the best for the future.”

GPC Chairman Adrian Noon thanked Mr Haymes for his service over the past two years.

“On behalf of the Board I would like to express our gratitude to Mr Haymes,” he said.

“I wish Mr Haymes all the best for his future endeavours.”

Mr Haymes, a highly experienced civil engineer with national and international resources sector experience, was appointed as GPC CEO in March 2022 before taking office in May that same year.

The GPC Chair at the time of Mr Haymes’ appointment, Dr Anthony Lynham, said Mr Haymes had a reputation for leadership, business operations, project management, sustainability performance, corporate governance with a focus on environmental protections and maintaining a safe workplace.

Mr Haymes has more than 30 years of experience in multinational companies including across Australia, Canada and the United States.

Before taking up the role of GPC, CEO Mr Haymes was executive vice president of gas producers INPEX Australia, where he led a $60 million LNG project in the environmentally sensitive area of Darwin Harbour.

GPC manage and operate the Port of Gladstone, Port of Rockhampton, Port of Bundaberg and the Port of Maryborough.

This publication has put several questions to GPC, including why Mr Haymes stepped down, but they would not provide any further comment.

The role of chief executive officer will be advertised for potential applicants to apply.
