Two young adults were swept out to sea and a man in his 30s was stranded on a popular island off the Capricorn Coast making for a busy day for the CapRescue team.
A CapRescue spokesman said the Rescue300 chopper was called to a search and rescue for two people who had been swept out to sea in Emu Park about 5.15pm December 27.
The rescue helicopter made it to scene just as the pair were found on a nearby small desolate island.
Neither person was injured or transported to hospital after the incident.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the man and woman had reportedly been on an inflatable raft before being swept away from shore.
A Queensland Police Service spokesman said the 19-year-old female and 20-year-old male were reported missing from the beach and later found to have been swept out to sea.
An immediate search begun with the help of the coast guard, water police, rescue helicopters and surf lifesavers.
At about 5:50pm the persons were spotted by the Rescue300 helicopter on Mother Mcgregor Island, rescued a short time later, returned to shore and assessed and cleared of any injury.
However, CapRescue’s job for the afternoon wasn’t finished yet.
While on the way back to Rockhampton, the crew was retasked to an incident on Great Keppel Island where a man in his 30s had suffered a medical incident.
A CapRescue spokesman said the Rescue300 helicopter was sent over to Great Keppel Island for a man who had become ill while hiking on the northern part of the island.
The helicopter hovered near the man’s location so the Rescue Crewman and Critical Care Paramedic could exit.
The crew hiked to the patient and helped him to reach Putney Beach, on the eastern side of the island.
The unwell man was treated by the on-board Critical Care Paramedic and Doctor before being flown back to Rockhampton Hospital in a stable condition.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the man in his 30s had suffered a medical incident about 5.40pm.
No ambulances were required for the incident, as the man was flown to Rockhampton Hospital by air.
More to come.
