A young woman on bail for possessing methamphetamines and wanted on six warrants was allegedly busted possessing more than 60 grams of meth on a flight from Brisbane to a regional city in Queensland.

Tanisha Lee Kerr, 26, was bailed to live with her grandmother in Pimpama at the Gold Coast when she decided to join her boyfriend in Rockhampton, defence lawyer Rio Ramos told Rockhampton Magistrates Court on December 27 during a bail application hearing.

She said Miss Kerr had been given bail on an aggravated possession of meth – possessing more than two grams of a schedule one drug – when she was allegedly found in possession with 64 grams of an illicit substance believed to be meth.

Ms Ramos said Miss Kerr disputes the whole of the 64 grams is meth and therefore, the drugs will need to be analysed which could take six months.

“The drug analysis is crucial in determining the quantity and the purity and whether it is methamphetamine,” she said.

Miss Kerr had been charged after flying from Brisbane Airport to Rockhampton Airport on Boxing Day, with one count each of possessing more than two grams of a schedule one drug, possessing a relevant substance or thing, unlawful possession of an explosive (a bullet) and stealing.

Ms Ramos said Miss Kerr’s boyfriend had yet to secure accommodation for them in Rockhampton when she spoke to him this morning.

Police prosecutor Claudia Neill-Ballantine said Miss Kerr was also on bail for serious unlawful use charges.

“She was given bail for quite a number of charges that were committed just this year alone which shows quite an escalation of offending,” she said.

Ms Neill-Ballantine said Miss Kerr was subject to six separate warrants which included five fail to appear in court allegations.

The court heard the defendant was required to report to Coomera police three times per week as part of her bail conditions which she was granted on November 28 in Beenleigh Magistrates Court.

Acting Magistrate Stephen Byrne said the 64 grams and other fresh offences happened at Brisbane airport.

He found Miss Kerr was a risk of reoffending and not complying with bail conditions.

Her bail was refused, she was remanded in custody and a brief of evidence was ordered for her fresh charges which were adjourned to Brisbane Magistrates Court on February 14.
