A Central Queensland family has lost everything after a fire tore through their Capricorn Coast home on Easter Monday.
Libbie and Doug Rutherford and their two children were devastated after the blaze on Monday morning.
Emergency crews were called to their home on Scenic Drive at Cooee Bay about 10.24am.
When crews arrived on scene the house was “well involved” with flames and “multiple explosions” were heard.
Losing all of their possessions is a fresh blow for the Rutherford family, which has been battling the odds for months.
Since July last year mother Libbie, 29, has been battling acute myeloid leukaemia and had been undergoing treatment at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
The cancer was found during a routine blood test.
A GoFundMe page was started by their friend, and husband Doug’s work colleague, Miranda Broadbent to help the family cover costs while Libbie was undergoing treatment.
Since March 11 Libbie and Doug had been home, reunited with their young family, but now they face the fresh obstacle of getting their lives back together post fire.
Thankfully no one was injured during the fire.
Libbie took to social media to let friends and family know they were ok.
“Today our house burnt down,” she said.
“I just wanted to update everyone. Thank you to those who have expressed concern and reached out to us today.
“All of the humans and pets made it out and are safe. We still have a lot to assess and figure out.”
The GoFundMe page has now been updated to raise funds for the family to help them rebuild.
“Originally this GoFundMe was for my friends (the Rutherfords) who were going through a rough time with Libbie fighting Acute Myeloid Leukaemia,” the page description says.
“Today, however, the family have literally lost everything in a house fire, so need our help and support again to get back on their feet.”
Fire investigators were called about the blaze but were not required to attend.
