In the first year of starting business, most people are just trying to keep their heads above water.

But for Noosa-based socially and environmentally responsible baby products business Love & Lee, the first year has been celebrated by winning one of the most world's most prestigious innovation awards.

The Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards are an international business awards competition open to all organisations in the 29 nations of the Asia-Pacific region.

Looking back on a life in radio and (almost) politics

For founder and mother-of-two Eve Cammell, winning a Gold Stevie Award in the Most Innovative Start Up of The Year - Consumer Products category, gave her confidence she is on the right track.

"I think what Love & Lee has done well is to tick all those boxes that consumers are looking for: organic, ethical, plastic free, innovative and committed to offsetting carbon," she said.

"I'm so proud of what Love & Lee has achieved in the first 12 months but there is definitely still a long way to go and a lot to learn.

"The foundations are set now though and I'm planning for the next 12 months to be big."

Ms Cammell launched the eco-friendly business in June 2019, after a career in human relations.

Having two young girls, the award-winning business owner wanted to create something ethical, free of chemicals and didn't use plastics or polyester.

"It took us just over 18 months to launch because product development and sourcing an ethical, organic and certified supply chain takes a lot of time and effort," she said.

"If we are not doing the right thing, then who is going to."

Working as sole trader with young kids is a challenge, but the green entrepreneur has big dreams to create a team as passionate as she is.

"The hardest part is that a majority of the time I work alone in my office - I miss a team of staff like what I always had in my old jobs," Ms Cammell said.

"My vision is that Love & Lee will continue to grow and be able to employ local women as staff to build my own team."
