Two Coast restaurateurs have both landed themselves before Noosa Magistrates Court after they were caught behind the wheel drink driving home.

Daniele Giannarelli – who owns 250 Grammi Food and Wine Bar in Noosaville – pleaded guilty on June 28, 2022, to driving under the influence, obstructing police and failing to give a specimen to police.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Phillip Stephens said the 45-year-old had been driving his orange Mustang about 1.35am on May 23, 2022, on Lake Entrance Blvd, Noosaville, when he was stopped by police.

The court heard Giannarelli told the officers he’d been drinking red wine before he drove.

Sergeant Stephens said after three attempts, Giannarelli returned a breath analysis reading of 0.152 which meant officers would be required to take him back to the station for further testing.

“He refused to exit the vehicle, requiring police to physically remove him from the driver’s side and was placed in the rear of a police vehicle,” Sergeant Stephens said.

The court heard back at the station Giannarelli refused to provide further specimen for testing after he was asked several times by officers.

Giannarelli’s solicitor Mick Arcuri said his client was “extremely embarrassed” for his actions.

“On the day the offence occurred he was out with a friend and he simply just lost it, he drank too much and made very poor decisions,” he said.

He was convicted, fined $1300 and disqualified for 12 months.

Meanwhile, Bask Eumundi owner Jack Madden, 36, pleaded guilty on June 28, 2022, to mid-range drink driving.

The court heard Madden recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.146 after he was stopped by police on his way home from his restaurant on Memorial Dr, Eumundi, on May 18, 2022.

Madden said he’d made the “stupid act” to drive after having beers with staff even though his restaurant was “500m from home”.

Magistrate Matthew McLaughlin said Madden was “just a whisker” under recording a high reading.

“Probably a mouthful of beer would have brought you to that,” he said.

Madden was convicted, fined $600 and disqualified for six months.
