New Premier’s expanded Queensland assistant ministry revealed

Premier David Crisafulli has expanded the LNP’s assistant ministry from eight to 10, with seven newly elected MPs appointed to the group that will have a big regional focus.

Former senator Amanda Stoker is one of seven newly elected MPs appointed to Premier David Crisafulli’s assistant ministry touted as the LNP’s “next generation”.

The Premier has increased the ministry from eight to ten, with five assistant minister to oversee a Queensland region.

Newly elected MPs Herman Vorster, Rebecca Young, Janelle Poole, Bree James, Sean Dillon and Donna Kirkland were all promoted to assistant minister.

“I promised regional Queensland would have a strong voice in the leadership of government and every region is represented in this Assistant Ministry,” Mr Crisafulli said.

“Their roles will also be about listening to Queenslanders to inform strong policy development.”

Condamine MP Pat Weir has been appointed Speaker of the 58th Parliament.

“With more than a decade of experience in the Parliament, Pat has the respect of both sides of the House and will bring a fair and measured approach to the role of Speaker,” Mr Crisafulli said.

“Having previously served as Temporary Speaker, Pat’s knowledge of Parliamentary standing orders will ensure stability and fairness in the 58th Parliament.”

Moggill MP Dr Christian Rowan will become Assistant Minister to the Premier on matters of State and New Citizens and new Redlands MP Rebecca Young will be the Assistant Minister to the Deputy Premier and Assistant Minister for Planning, Housing and Better Regulation.

North Toowoomba MP Trevor Watts has been appointed Assistant Minister to the Premier for Cabinet and South West Queensland, while returning Callide MP Bryson Head the Assistant Minister for Regional Development, Resources and Critical Minerals.

Ms Stoker, who during the election was tipped to join Mr Crisafulli’s frontbench, is the Assistant Minister for Finance, Trade, Employment and Training.

Burleigh MP Herman Vorster, who successfully inherited the seat from retired MP Michael Hart, is the Assistant Minister for Multicultural Affairs and International Student Attraction.

Police officer turned MP Janelle Poole will be the Assistant Minister for Community Safety, Defence Industry, Veterans and North Queensland.

Barron River MP Bree James, Rockhampton MP Donna Kirkland and Gregory MP Sean Dillon, who all made headlines during the election campaign, were given a guernsey.

Ms James has been appointed to Assistant Minister for Tourism, Early Learning, Creative Industries and Far North Queensland, Ms Kirkland to Assistant Minister for Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol Treatment, Families and Seniors and Central Queensland and Mr Dillon Assistant Minister for Primary Industry Development, Water and Western Queensland.

Mr Crisafulli said he would harness the energy of the team of newly elected members.

“The fresh faces in this Assistant Ministry are part of generation next and will be instrumental in delivering for Queenslanders,” he said.

“These Assistant Ministers are hungry to serve and their energy and hard work will be harnessed to benefit the length and breadth of our State.”

Dr Christian Rowan – Assistant Minister to the Premier on Matters of State and New Citizens.
