Mice wreak havoc as thousands of rodents plague Darling Downs

Mice are running rampant around the region, with one pest controller saying it’s the worst he’s seen in his 20 year career.

Pests taking over regional NSW

Mice are wreaking havoc across the Darling Downs and it’s not only farmers coming across plagues of rodents.

Mice have also made their way into suburban homes and businesses.

The mice population across Queensland and New South Wales has increased over the past year, with some residents finding hundreds of the pests breeding on their properties.

Pest Worx Qld co-owner Anthony Alexander said his business had been extremely busy and was getting multiple call outs a day to rodent infestations.

“We’re taking two to three calls a day, with people asking us to come out and deal with rodents on their property,” he said.

“We’ll head out and set up traps, baits and lockable stations to capture them.

“It’s been going on well over 12 months now and seems to be getting worse.

“It’s the worst I’ve seen in my 20 plus years on the job.

“We believe that with the warmer winters and minimal rainfall it’s allowing the rodents to survive and breed.

Warwick resident Cora Becker has caught over 5000 mice, up to 100 per day.

“With all this rain we are having at the moment it may drown a few out and if we get a cold snap it could hopefully knock a few more on the head.”

It services the Toowoomba, South Burnett, Southern Downs and Western Downs regions.
