15 NAMES: The best of the next generation on display at AFL Mackay junior grand finals

The best up and coming stars of AFL Mackay were on display on Saturday in the junior grand finals. We name 15 of the best performers from the day.

Eastern Swans took out the AFL Mackay 2024 under-12s premiership.

With the AFL Mackay grand finals taking place on Saturday, it’s time to take a look at the

Under-17s:

Riley King (Moranbah Bulldogs)

The full forward kicked four goals for the day, none more significant than the game winner on the stroke of full time. Was excellent every time the ball was down Moranbah’s end.

Zahn Bugeja (North Mackay Saints)

His height and leaping ability made him nigh unstoppable at centre half forward, kicking the Saints’ first three goals.

Jay Pietzner (Moranbah Bulldogs)

Consistently in the game, made some important tackles and marks along with using the ball well. Was a deserving best on ground winner.

Jay Pietzner of Moranbah Bulldogs took out best on ground honours in the under-17 AFL Mackay grand final for 2024.

Brodie Carlill (North Mackay Saints)

Great defensive tackling pressure whenever he was called upon.

Jakson Maurer (Moranbah Bulldogs)

Was uncatchable when he found space on the flanks, used the ball very well when he had the opportunity.

Elias Goss (North Mackay Saints)

Deserves a mention for one elite tackling effort alone, but also kicked a valuable goal and was strong around the ground.

Lincoln Nicholas (Moranbah Bulldogs)

Despite his direct opponent getting the better of him early, he was able to improve his impact on the contest as the game progressed.

Moranbah Bulldogs took out the AFL Mackay 2024 under-14s premiership.

Under-14s:

Thomas Sutton (Moranbah Bulldogs)

Showcased his impressive foot skills and ability to break through packs throughout the contest.

Beau Thompson (Moranbah Bulldogs)

Elite skills coupled with elite pace ensured he was a force to be reckoned with in every area of the game. Took out best on ground honours for his performance.

Owen Wilson (Eastern Swans)

Can hold his head high in the loss as he made the most of every opportunity to impact the game both forward and back.

Mitchell Dent (Eastern Swans)

Had limited opportunities up forward but showed flashes with ball in hand.

Under-12s:

Beau McPherson - Eastern Swans

General across halfback, took some key intercept marks and gained possession through the middle. His work, particularly behind the play, netted him best on ground honours.

Elliana Ness - Mackay Magpies

Won plenty of the ball for her side and gained meterage with a booming right foot.

Sawyer Frith - Mackay Magpies

Had some important efforts on the last line of defence.

Connor Stephens - Eastern Swans

Got in and under and moved the ball forward for his side at every opportunity. Also kicked a valuable goal in the third quarter.
