With all but the grand final of Mackay’s Porters Mitre 10 T20 Smash in the books, it’s time to take a look at some of the best performances of the competition thus far.
Darryn Dyer – 144* (65)
Dyer put together what could go down as the best individual performance of the competition, belting 144 not out off just 65 deliveries for CiteCon Kingfishers in their 46-run win over Gibbs Air Crocs.
His innings included 23 boundaries (14 sixes) with none of the Crocs’ five bowling options able to stop him.
Liam Zurvis - 5-15
While centuries are rare in T20 cricket, five-wicket hauls might be even rarer, but that is exactly what Zurvis was able to achieve in the Crocs’ victory over BTB Electrical Breakers.
And he did it all while conceding less than four runs an over.
Jason Butterworth – 76* (51)
The Custom Fluidpower Mudcrabs opener played a starring role in his side’s round two victory over the Kingfishers, partnering with Cody Filewood (55 not out off 41 balls) to lead them to a nine-wicket win.
Cody Filewood – 73* (45)
This was not the most hard-hitting innings of the competition, however Filewood’s 73 not out was no less effective, as he scored more than half of the Mudcrabs’ total of 4-145 in round four.
Conor Bryant – 3-22
The Mudcrabs got the job done with the ball in their win over the Breakers in round three, and were led by an impressive showing from Bryant who conceded less than a run a ball.
Bryant picked up three invaluable wickets including opener Brant Attard (69 off 43) who was threatening as a potential match-winner.
Mahesh Rajaratne – 73* (42) and 3-20
Despite playing in a losing effort, the Kingfishers’ Mahesh Rajaratne put together a man of the match worthy performance against the Breakers.
His innings of 73 not out included 12 boundaries (five sixes), and he went on to pick up 3-20 from three overs to give his side a chance at victory.
Mitchell Wadsworth - 67* (31) and 1-27
Wadsworth put together a match-winning performance for the Breakers in their opening clash against Kingfishers, bludgeoning 67 not out off just 31 balls to get his side over the line with three balls to spare.
Joining the crease with the Breakers in a precarious position at 6-103, Wadsworth belted 11 boundaries including five sixes to secure the win.
He also picked up tidy figures of 1-27 from four overs in the first innings.
Darryn Dyer – 68 (42)
The Kingfishers’ star had himself another day out in round four against the Breakers, smashing another 68 runs to add to his tally for the competition.
Jakob Frerichs – 59 (34) and 1-25
The Breakers ultimately fell short in their run chase, in round four, but nonetheless Frerichs had an impressive showing at the top of the order to give his side a chance at victory against the Kingfishers.
Also picked up the timely wicket of Dyer in his first over.
Sam Vassallo - 80 (51)
The Kingfishers captain’s knock of 80 represented nearly half of his team’s total, and it came off just 51 deliveries.
Shaun Austin - 84* (48)
Austin carried his bat through the Crocs’ innings in round five
Darryn Dyer - 89 (39)
Dyer’s third appearance on the list was another scorcher, as he helped the Kingfishers to another 230+ score with this scintillating knock.
Mahesh Rajaratne - 74 (49)
Another star of the tournament, Rajaratne partnered with Dyer for a 96-run stand before lifting his side beyond the 200-run mark.
Chris Mceldowney - 58* (24)
The third Kingfisher to feature from this single match, Mceldowney also crossed the half-century mark and did so in just four overs worth of deliveries.
Mason Kohler - 3-21
Kohler’s efforts with the ball proved critical to the Mudcrabs’ round six win as he picked up three vital wickets while conceding less than a run a ball.
