ONCE-vacant blocks of land across the Mackay region are buzzing with activity as construction gets under way on key projects.

393 Shakespeare Street - West Mackay

Queensland Health is establishing a purpose-built 10 bed adult mental health facility in West Mackay.

Construction has started on the $5.4M project, Step Up Step Down, at 393 Shakespeare Street.

The project, which is being delivered by Mackay firm Zined Group, will create 11 new jobs during construction.

New residential living options will become available on the fringe of the Mackay CBD soon with construction of town houses under way.

The vacant site at 21 Prospect Street will soon be home to seven multiple dwelling units all containing two bedrooms.

Mazda will find a new home at 361 Shakespeare Street with construction of a new showroom and workshop under way.

The construction is part of an expansion of Autocorner Mackay.

The upgrade to the complex at the corner of Nebo Road and Shakespeare Street, which also incorporates Mackay's Toyota dealership, will also include an expanded parking lot off Hyne Street.

Major construction work is under way at the Mackay Neighbourhood Centre in George Street.

The centre has been undergoing an extension since January and has temporarily moved to The Dome in Victoria Street for a few months.
