Two new drive-through takeaways have been proposed for a suburb of Mackay with no shortage of hungry tradies come lunch time.

Updated plans were recently lodged on behalf of Property 85 to Mackay Regional Council to build the stores on the vacant 2ha lot at 117 Archibald St, directly opposite existing food outlet Mother’s Pantry.

A prior development application over the property had outlined multiple showrooms plus an almost 5000sqm trade warehouse, which the council approved.

But recent documents state multiple fast-food operators had expressed their interest to open shop on the site, “keen to service Paget”, prompting Property 85, directed by Mackay-based Jason and Anna Price, to replace showrooms with 400sqm of food and drink outlets instead.

Documents reveal the council had expressed concerns over the fast-food stores' proposal regarding the potential of queuing vehicles to spill out onto Connors Rd and impact on traffic.

A response was provided stating each fast-food store could accommodate at least 14 vehicles in its drive-through queue, and that it was proposed to install signage and road markings to redirect traffic to a designated carpark once queues were full.

The application, which does not impact on existing approvals over the site, is still before council for consideration.

The council recently approved two other new fast-food stores for the Mackay region to be built at Andergrove Lakes next to the wake park off Superior Boulevard.

Hungry Jacks will be the official first tenant of the two stores.

Plans had included for the burger chain store to include outdoor alfresco dining over the top of the drive-through lane, but this design feature was recently scrapped, as recent council documents reveal.
