OF SEVEN auctions at the weekend one set of keys changed hands, on a North Mackay property.
The three-bedroom house at 3 Swayne St sold to a Mackay buyer for "above market value” - $262,000 - according to Elders Real Estate agent Dianne Franettovich.
"There were four registered bidders, all owner occupiers; it was a single man who ended up with the property but he is going to live there,” she said.
The auction was a mortgagee sale, which Ms Franettovich said were unfortunately common; however, she said when sellers opted for private auction campaigns they were generally successful.
"There are few private properties that do go to auction, then they do get the best price in the market, they do work and it's a quick fix, they're sold under the hammer,” she said.
Ms Franettovich said her agency had sold their last three auction properties, and she has chalked up two of those sales.
"It isn't common,” she said. "Some people are a bit scared of auctions because they think they cost more. The only extra cost is the auctioneer, advertising is the same as on a normal property.”
There were 16 people looking on at the Swayne St auction and plenty of inspections prior to that.
Six other properties going under the hammer did not sell and are still on the market. They are:
