Are you a beach or mountain person? Take the test

A RESEARCHER from the University of Virginia has found people should consider their personalities more closely when choosing a place to live.

Do you absolutely relish the view of the rolling waves? Or is the panorama of the mountains your absolute favourite? Don't be surprised if your mate just doesn't appreciate the same view that makes you let out a sigh.

According to Shige Oishi, a researcher from University of Virginia, people should consider their personalities more closely when choosing a place to live.

"Some cities and towns have geography that is more accommodating for some people than for other," Mr Oishi said.

The environment in which you live cannot alter your personality.

But apart from financial reasons or distance to things or people that matter to you, your personality actually helps you in deciding where to unpack that bag.

Let's see what your choice says about your personality. Can you already guess?

Pick the views that appeal to you and discover the answer at the bottom.

YOUR ANSWER

If you like the mountains and the greens:

You tend to like quiet, secluded areas. Why is this?

The researchers say there's no evidence that living in the mountains makes you prefer your own company - but people with an introverted personality prefer to live in places where they can get some valuable alone time.

Introverts are more prone to thinking, and are thus involved in creating novel things.

Oishi cautions that more studies would be needed to determine why introverts and extroverts prefer different terrains.

One possibility, at least, is that stereotypes of the types of people who like the mountains tend to be self-fulfilling.

If you like the beach:

You're an extrovert. People who live in the flat/open condition perceive the terrain to be more sociable, exciting and stimulating.

A study found that when people want to socialise with others, they prefer the ocean far more (75%) than mountains (25%).

Individuals possessing this personality type are social, practical, appear affectionate, informal, good conversationalists, active and lively.
