A young man accused over an alleged kidnapping of a teen boy south of Mackay has had a number of charges dropped.
Storm Michael Spurling is one of two people charged after a 14-year-old boy was allegedly forced into a vehicle at knifepoint in the Bakers Creek area.
He is facing a number of offences including deprivation of liberty and dangerous driving following a police pursuit in February.
It is alleged the vehicle drove around Mackay for several hours with the teen in the boot, eventually stopping outside the Night Owl in Slade Point about 10.30pm on February 12.
Mr Spurling, 19, was listed to appear in Mackay Magistrates Court on Monday on unrelated charges including fraud and possessing tainted property from June 2021.
During the brief mention in her court, Magistrate Bronwyn Hartigan noted Mr Spurling was also charged over the alleged kidnapping.
The court heard a “pre record” which is a pre-recording of evidence for that matter was set for this week with the hearing listed for later this month.
It is normal for juveniles not to give evidence during a trial or hearing in person – instead their evidence is taken earlier and a recording of that evidence is played during a trial or hearing.
Ms Hartigan said the fraud and possessing tainted property charges had been listed for a hearing as well.
“It’s not connected to the other at all,” she said.
Solicitor Robin Cathcart, for Mr Spurling, had initially asked for matters to be adjourned.
However police prosecutor Sergeant Linden Pollard said the fraud and possessing tainted property charges were to be dropped.
The court heard Mr Spurling was currently in Mackay watch-house.
