A witness has detailed the shocking moment she watched a motorbike rider go underneath a car after the two vehicles collided on a busy road at Slade Point.
The rider, a man, appeared to have escaped serious injury despite being pinned under the vehicle after the crash that occurred about 7.30pm Monday on the corner of Slade Point Rd and Ibis St.
Elizabeth Sarchett said she had been driving to a service station when she saw the motorbike travelling in front of her trying to overtake another vehicle.
She said during the overtake procedure the other vehicle went to turn into a side street – Ibis St – and as a result the bike collided with the car.
“And then I couldn’t see him, and he was under the car,” Ms Sarchett said.
“He just went smack bang into it.”
Ms Sarchett said she immediately put her hazard lights on, parked and raced over to help. She said the rider was talking thankfully.
“He was really under pressure. He was just stuck underneath the car, and I was just really concerned,” she said.
A second eyewitness at the scene described the motorbike rider attempting to overtake a vehicle while heading north on Slade Point Rd, moving into the opposite lane.
“I was behind old mate and he’s obviously dropped and gone to overtake the car,” he said.
“There was another car in front of the car he was overtaking that I wasn’t aware of either, and as he’s gone to overtake it they’ve turned in.
“He’s tried to stop and he’s just went straight under the car.”
Multiple emergency services including fire, police and paramedics crews were called to the scene.
“It was a big relief to see him come out unscathed,” the eyewitness said.
The motorbike rider was in good spirits despite being pinned under the vehicle, and was relatively unscathed.
He was even smiling and joking with ambulance crews.
Ms Sarchett watched and the fire crews worked to extract the rider from underneath the vehicle.
“I feel so much better,” she said.
A QPS spokesman said it the rider appeared to have suffered non-serious injuries.
He was being assessed by paramedics.
Motorists are urged to avoid the area or driver with caution on Slade Point Rd.
