Mackay police charge alleged knife wielding attempted carjacker
Police have charged a man after he allegedly brandished a knife in a brazen daylight attempted car theft.

A Mackay man has been charged after he allegedly made stabbing motions with a knife in an terrifying attempted carjacking on the city fringe.
The victim, a man, had been sitting in a vehicle and managed to fight of his attacker, police allege.
Detective senior sergeant Chris Eaton another man approached the vehicle which had been parked on Juliet Street about 3.10pm Sunday armed with a knife.
The pair were unknown to each other.
“The male person, police will alleged, has made a number of stabbing motions at the victim,” the Mackay Criminal Investigation Branch officer in charge said.
The stabbing motions were made in the course to attempt to steal the car, Senior Sergeant Eaton said police would allege.
He added the door had been partly open when the alleged incident occurred.
“The victim has fought back but was uninjured, the offender has run from the scene,” Senior Sergeant Eaton said.
Soon after police went to an address on Juliet St where a 29-year-old man was taken into custody.
The alleged weapon was also seized.
“It would have been a very traumatic event for the victim, we’re very pleased that nobody was injured but its obviously a very serious offence and we’re happy the (alleged offender) has been taken into custody,” Senior Sergeant Eaton said.
The man has been charged with attempted armed robbery and was due to appear in court on Monday.
It is understood the alleged victim did not live in Juliet St, the vehicle was just parked there.
