A daring overtake from an unsuspecting motorcyclist has surprised a police officer on the Bruce Highway.
A 73-year-old Andergrove woman overtook a police vehicle while travelling at 126km/h in a 100km/h zone.
She was fined $459 on the spot and lost four demerit points.
A 41-year-old Andergrove woman also overtook a police vehicle in a separate incident.
She overtook the police vehicle, crossing over the solid white lines.
She was fine $248 and lost three demerit points.
The incidents come as police warn they will crack down on dangerous behaviour on the roads in an effort to reduce the road toll in the area.
Police say motorcyclists are over-represented in injury and fatal crashes in 2021 and while patrols are continuing, officers are detecting motorists – particularly motorcyclists – “committing intentionally dangerous traffic breaches”.
Sergeant Nigel Dalton said Senior Constable Carl Butcher detected the two women in separate incidents.
“Both of these riders will have to pay for their poor choices while they were riding but the consequences of their actions could have been so much worse,” he said.
“Road rules are their to protect everyone and if followed, they will reduce the level of danger on our roads.
“Police will be maintaining a presence on our police district roads for the rest of this year, they will operating anytime, anywhere.”
