A CBD fast food restaurant plans to demolish its playground to make way for more parking spaces and take over the vacant plot next door.
Hungry Jacks at 6 Peel St, Mackay is planning to transform the long vacant lot next to it into additional parking for their restaurant.
Documents submitted to council by Hickey Oatley Planning and Development on behalf of the franchisee reveal plans to improve car park and drive-through capacity significantly by incorporating the 799 sqm plot.
The empty lot has frontage on Mangrove Rd, is held by a private owner and is directly opposite Caneland Central Shopping Centre.
Overall number of car parks will rise to 22 spaces, plus three motorbike spaces and the drive-through queuing capacity will rise to 11 vehicles.
An existing exit onto Peel St will be removed and a new entry will be added to the busy Mangrove Rd frontage.
The outdoor eating area and playground will be removed to convert the drive-through entrance into a dual lane.
Hickey Oatley planners also wrote they are seeking to refurbish the inside and outside of the building and “improve the building’s visual appearance”.
This expansion of capacity comes amid a flurry of development applications for the Mackay CBD, including plans to build a new service station on River St.
A NSW developer also asked for approval on a previously lapsed application to develop 108 units on Victoria St in the heart of Mackay.
