Bowen Development Road crash: Man trapped after car rolls near mining town

A man was trapped and unconscious after his rolled his car during a crash near a mining town to the northwest of Mackay.

A vehicle has rolled and a driver trapped inside near a mining town west of Airlie Beach.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 11.35am on Bowen Development Road at Springlands about 100km north-west of Mackay.

The male driver was reportedly unconscious when paramedics arrived at the scene, but regained consciousness shortly after.

He was still trapped in the vehicle at the time the paramedics arrived before 12pm.

The crash happened near Sonoma Coal Mine.

A rescue chopper has been tasked to fly the patient to Mackay Base Hospital.

It was the second significant crash emergency services responded to on Tuesday, after a man in his 70s suffered serious leg injuries in a single-vehicle crash into a tree off the Peak Downs Highway west of Mackay.

Emergency services were called to the scene near Hogans Pocket Rd at Hazledean, about 47km from Mackay, at 3.55am.

A man, aged in his 70s, was trapped inside the vehicle.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crews had cut the man free from the wreck by 5.20am.

Queensland Ambulance paramedics treated the man at the scene for significant leg injuries before he was flown to Mackay Base Hospital in a stable condition.

The crash shut the Peak Downs Highway for three hours, reopening about 6.50am.
