An alleged child abuser and rapist who repeatedly breached his bail and failed to show up to court has been given another chance.
The 20-year-old is facing four charges of indecent treatment of a child under 12, one of indecent treatment of child under 16, three of rape, and one of attempted rape.
Mackay Magistrates Court heard he breached conditions of his bail on four separate occasions and failed to appear before the court twice.
Defence solicitor Robert Beamish said his client was currently trying to find work and “the bail breaches were relatively minor”.
“He definitely should have made arrangements to attend court,” Mr Beamish said.
The man pleaded guilty to four instances of breaching bail and two failures to appear.
Magistrate Damien Dwyer told him, “I have to be certain that you’re going to show up to court”.
“If you get found guilty of these offences you can look forward to spending a reasonably long period of imprisonment,” Mr Dwyer said.
“You’re getting the benefit of the doubt now, but if you want to start that sentence early keep that up.”
Mr Dwyer said even if the man was not guilty of the charges, he would end up spending time in custody if his behaviour continues.
The man was ordered to pay $1200 and convictions were recorded.
The case was adjourned for committal in late May.
