Mackay road rage incident leaves driver shaken, and wanting answers

To the idiot who nearly killed me on Mackay Bucasia Rd at Mount Pleasant, sit tight. Police will hopefully be knocking on your door soon, but I’ve also got some questions.

Mackay's shocking road toll 2022

To the idiot who nearly killed me on Mackay Bucasia Rd this morning, sit tight.

Police know your car and with any luck, they’ll be knocking on your door soon enough.

That is, of course, if they don’t meet you at a crash between the time I write this and the paper hitting the news stands.

But I have a question for you.

What happened before 8.50am Thursday that made you behave like a lunatic, lay on the horn for a good two minutes and tailgate so closely I almost had your number plate imprinted on my back bumper?

Your dangerous attitude would almost certainly have caused me to crash had I not slammed on the brakes within seconds of your antagonistic swerve back into my lane, I presume you did, purely to further demonstrate how inconvenienced you were by me doing the speed limit.

Not over, not under, but 80km/h.

I’m not sure what gives you the right to pester and intimidate drivers, and my only hope is that you don’t hurt anyone else, or even yourself.

Not for you, but the family you undoubtedly have and who would miss you, despite your driving faults.

But mate, I can tell you this.

The behaviour I experienced and attitude I witnessed have no place on our roads and that car you’re driving – a one-tonne machine – can kill.

And to the grey VW beside us, I hope you got dashcam and you’re able to give it to police.

It could save a life, even of those determined on dicing with death.
