In just three weeks Mackay ‘s first dedicated karaoke venue has been transformed into a strip club, and they’re launching tonight.

The dancers at the Showbar venue in Mackay have all moved into a new venue on 22 Gregory St, after entrepreneur Catriona Sawtell announced their adult entertainment services would moved to what used to be Hibiki Bar and Karaoke and would change name.

Management received their licence at 2pm today, and although an army of tradies were seen perfecting the last details of the newly refurbished venue at 4pm today, and despite there being no dancers yet, videos of nude women were already up on the venue’s big screens and Club 22 management was confident the club would be ready for its soft launch.

“We’re all very excited, because there were a lot of hurdles to get to the opening,” Ms Sawtell said.

“There will be a much bigger opening we will advertise more next weekend.”

The strip club’s target clientele will be for the “older generation”, and clients can expect “good drinks and good service”, without being a nightclub.

“It’s clean, it’s tidy, it’s new and it’s got good service,” Ms Sawtell summarised.

Club 22 will have between 20 to 30 dancers, who all come from the previous venue on the top floor of Wilkinson’s Hotel, and would focus on performing in private rooms.

Ms Sawtell said a lot of their dancers had been doing this for a long time and the age ranged from 18 to late 50s.

“It empowers the girls, they’ve got the flexibility, they can drop the kids to school in the morning you know.”

As to getting a rough idea of pricing, Club 22’s management said they could not give a realistic prices range because “it depends on what you want”.

“Someone could come and on the paper it’s this much, but they might want to have a different length of time, one or two three dancers.”
