New businesses, industry and fast food could soon be coming to Paget and Ooralea after a multi-use development was proposed to Mackay regional council.
Lodged on September 2, the new development seeks to transform the properties at 47 and 63 Boundary Rd, Paget into a mixed-use development housing industrial businesses, a warehouse, hardware and trade supplies store and food and drink outlet.
Landowners Raymond and Dominica Camilleri intend to demolish the two pre-existing houses and create a two storey development with frontage on Broadsound Rd and Boundary Rd.
Sam Hutchinson, a town planner for Development Directive, the company planning the development, wrote the proposed development will contribute to both the current and future economic needs of the locality.
Mr Hutchinson said the location between Paget and Ooralea and its proximity to West Mackay was optimal to meeting the demands of nearby residents and businesses by creating new jobs and providing essential services.
Restaurants were also identified as a shortfall in the area and the new development aims to “provide an improved variety of choice for food” in the form of a new fast food and drive-through restaurant.
In traffic assessments of the area based off of existing data, the new development is expected to generate an additional 115 trips from vehicles on nearby roads to and from the location during morning peak hours, an additional 152 during evening peak hours and an additional 174 trips during weekend peak hours.
87 car parks and seven disabled parking spaces will be built to accommodate customer and worker needs.
The development will be undertaken in one stage of construction and, if approved, expects to reach completion in 2026.
