A mother of three had her arms and legs broken in several places after a horrific head-on collision on the Peak Downs Highway that left her trapped in her vehicle.

Mackay woman Maddison Cordell was travelling with her seven-year-old daughter on Saturday afternoon to surprise her partner Jasmin Whitehead working in Moranbah when a ute overtaking a truck collided head on with her vehicle, according to her sister-in-law Jordan.

Ms Cordell remains in ICU at Mackay hospital, Jordan said in a Facebook post on Monday morning, along with her daughter who had suffered minor injuries to her pelvic and abdominal area.

Jordan also shared Ms Cordell’s daughter’s heartbreaking words immediately after the crash.

“Nova is in hospital but has sustained bruises and cuts,” she said.

“She was the first to be removed from the vehicle telling her mum that it’s okay mummy — something a little girl shouldn’t have to do.”

Jordan has since started a GoFundMe to raise money for the family.

In the GoFundMe, Jordan said “the emotional toll and the expense is overwhelming” as Ms Cordell’s three young kids miss out on seeing their mum.

At the time of publishing, 28 donations from the community had been made raising more than $1,800 towards the GoFundMe page.

Commenting on the Facebook post shared by Ms Whitehead, Heidi Bruce said her husband was second on the scene and helping Ms Cordell and Nova while waiting for emergency services.

“He has been thinking about them and was hoping Maddison was ok,” she wrote.

A man in his 20s who was taken from the scene to Mackay hospital with serious injuries is now in a stable condition.

Police investigations are ongoing and no charges have been laid over the crash.
