Roshni by Raj launches breakfast menu at Mackay CBD restaurant

A popular Indian restaurant is serving up more than curry as it launches a new breakfast service that combines the classics with fusion. See the menu.

A Mackay fine dining staple has created a mouth watering breakfast menu, with a few Indian style inspirations.

Roshni by Raj will begin serving in the AM from July 22, 2025.

Owner Raj Sharma travelled across Australia and even New Zealand, exploring the top cafes to help design his modern “classic” Australian menu, with a few Indian fusion dishes thrown into the mix.

“Mackay has supported us from day one so this gives them another reason to visit us in the morning,” Mr Sharma said.

With just a few additions like a coffee machine, the restaurant is now ready to open for its 7am to 2pm breakfast service.

“It’s not very cafe oriented where they have to turn the tables … so people can take their time,” Mr Sharma said.

The new menu features Aussie brekkie staples like smashed avo and eggs benny, but Mr Sharma has also added a few fusion dishes such as the sauteed rainbow chard.

“No one does it here,” Mr Sharma said.

“It is the phenomenal thing.”

The breakfast menu is reasonably priced with items from $10 to $22, which wife and co-owner Jessica Hogan attributed to Mr Sharma’s relationship with suppliers.

“We are competitive with our suppliers, Raj is always talking to them,” Ms Hogan said.

Mr Sharma added he didn’t cut labour costs but instead “goes to war with my suppliers”.

“I’ve created an institution here where people can relate to Roshni as more than just a restaurant,” Mr Sharma said.

While researching his new menu Mr Sharma came across the Freddoccino, which went viral on tiktok after a cafe in Perth shared the creation process.
Mr Sharma hoped to make it a mainstay of his breakfast menu.

“It’s a viral showstopper,” Ms Hogan said.
“The only place in Mackay maybe all of Queensland where you’ll find this frothy, creamy ice cold caffeine bomb.”

Across town a Mackay riverside bar has also started serving breakfast.

Red Dog Brewing owner Sandra Egan said Red Dog Riverfront’s brekkie menu launched four weeks ago and “people are embracing it”.

“Those mornings have been absolutely beautiful down at the riverfront,” Ms Egan said.

The menu covers the classics of eggs benny and big breakfasts, which have so far been received with “a lot of really good reviews”.

“We’ve had some really good weather the last couple of weeks so it’s been a perfect opportunity,” Ms Egan said.

The breakfast menu is also coming to Red Dog’s Brewery at Rural View in the near future.
