Forget Mad Max — if you want to see gas guzzling hot rods, monster trucks and the finest animals Queensland has to offer, you need to be at the Pioneer Valley and Mackay shows.
And if you’re deciding between one or both, here’s all you need to know about the Mackay Show and Pioneer Valley Agricultural Show.
Pioneer Valley Agricultural Show
Finch Hatton will be celebrating 60 years of the Pioneer Valley Agricultural Show sunday, June 16.
After the morning horse events and wood chopping comes a band of stockmen and their bucking broncos in the KW Horse Trick Riding show at 1.00pm.
The travelling act has toured showgrounds across Australia with their ‘high class’ show jumping horses and organisers promise they won’t disappoint.
Following the horses will be the father and son hot rod stunt driving act ‘Hot Wheels’, where the two will tear up the showground as they perform feats of speed and tremendous stunts.
The two will perform twice, first competing against each other in the Biggest Jump Competition at 3.oopm, before showing off the power of their machines in the Heroes Super Truck show at 6.40pm.
While older children can enjoy the rides and side show alley, the tots haven’t been forgotten, as Mackay child entertainment company Toddler Time Soft Play, will have set up a safe play area for children aged 0 – 5 complete with ball pit.
Also on offer at the Pioneer Valley Agricultural Show will be an animal nursery, duck racing, pony rides and cattle exhibitions.
Whitsundays helicopter company Helibiz will be at the show offering joy flights throughout the day.
Berkleys Super Tank will be coming to both shows: an artificially created fishing tank where the operators demonstrate catching barramundi and help the audience get involved.
An average of 16,000 people have attended the show in recent years.
Tickets are on sale for pre-purchase at select locations with family passes sold at $50 and bonus ride ticket sheets available for $25.
The Mackay Show
Starting Tuesday June 18 and running until June 20, the Mackay Show promises to be the biggest one yet according to organiser Cassie Waterson.
“We have lots of new entertainment,” Ms Waterson said.
“We have the monster trucks, which we haven’t had for a while, Berkleys Super Fishing Tank, the Stockman show and a mining simulator.”
MacMahon mining will be putting on a mining simulator where children will be able to climb into the driver's seat of a dump truck and get a taste for what it feels like to operate truly heavy machinery.
Performing three times a day, KC’s fireworks presents their monster truck show, where world class drivers will be demonstrating their power in a destructive showcase.
Also playing multiple times a day will be Outback Jack’s Stockman show, where Jack shows off his equestrian skills, leading his horse around the arena, as well as bringing in his dogs and sheep for live wrangling demonstrations.
Jack’s show promises to be entertaining, as well as educational, and is a must see for showgoers.
Local acts will be performing throughout the entire show with local schools St Pats presenting their drumming band and dance schools such as the International Dance Affair, showcasing their best students.
Tickets are on sale starting at $20 for adults (17+), $15 for children (6-16), family passes for $50 (2 adults and 2 children) and children 5 and under having free admission.
