A woman accused of burning her home down with eight puppies inside in a fraud scheme has broken down in tears after learning she would remain in custody.

Julie Marie Clark’s second bail application in three months was heard in Mackay Magistrates Court as police further alleged she dishonestly gained money from a victim in Calen on May 22, 2025 and November 19, 2024, a domestic violence offence.

Police have alleged Ms Clark burned down her Calen home on November 19, 2024, killing eight two-week old dogs who were inside at the time.

She is also charged with two counts of fraud and one count of attempted fraud from November 19 as well as a domestic violence offence of assault occasioning bodily harm from November 18.

Defence lawyer Laura Santin said she’d only recently spoken with Ms Clark, who had lodged her bail application already.

Mr Dwyer — who previously refused Ms Clark's last application due to the serious nature of her offending — said “there are specific thresholds you must reach”.

“I don’t think this application reaches them at this stage,” Mr Dwyer said.

Mr Dwyer refused the application for bail and adjourned the matter to early July.

Ms Clark was visibly upset by the news, crying over the videolink.
