A camper has been flown to hospital after being found unresponsive on a beach south of Mackay.

The RACQ CQ Rescue chopper was tasked to Armstrong Beach after the camper, believed to be in their 40s, was found unconscious in a tent.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said paramedics went to Miran Khan Drive about 2.30pm to respond to a patient experiencing a medial episode.

An RACQ CQ Rescue spokeswoman said the chopper was tasked and took the camper in a semi-conscious state to Mackay Base Hospital about 4.15pm where doctors were assessing the person for a suspected overdose.
