Councillors have officially voted to approve a new adult store in Mackay.

It comes after tattooist Kate Foxley-Conolly, of KFX Co, recently purchased two properties at 162 and 164 Wood St in the CBD.

Ms Foxley-Conolly has given permission for FX Clinics Rejuvenation, a Mackay-based company registered in late September, to apply to open an adult store at 162 Wood St.

“(An adult store) means the use of premises for the primary purpose of displaying or selling sexually explicit materials or products and devices that are associated with, or used in, a sexual practice or activity,” documents lodged to Mackay Regional Council state.

When the Daily Mercury first reported on the development application in February, 60 per cent of readers voted that Mackay did not need another adult store.

Council documents show the proposal was open to public notification from March 25 to April 17 which resulted in one properly-made and two not properly made submissions in objection to the store.

Issues raised included “limited” parking along Wood St, the amenity impacts on “existing sensitive land” in the area, and whether the town needed another adult shop.

Council documents state the development, being within a Principal Centre Zone under the planning scheme, did not require extra car park spaces; it would not “materially impact existing development” considering there was a nearby adult store, The Diva’s Den, at 146 Wood St; and the planning scheme did not limit how many adult stores could operate within a close proximity.

Councillors are recommended to approve the development application during the ordinary meeting on Wednesday.

The building at 162 Wood St has already been painted in black and gold in anticipation of the approval, with Google business listings showing Gold Fox Promotions, an “adult entertainment store”, as operating from the address.

Gold Fox Promotions describes itself as “Mackay’s leading adult entertainment” covering all of Queensland and its website, Gold Fox Boutique, stocks products including lingerie, adult toys, “gender neutral specialty items” and more.

The website states it offers “fast and discreet delivery to your door” or 24-hour collection for “last minute pickup”.
