A fast food giant is hoping to become the first of two takeaway tenants to move into a new development at Andergrove Lakes.
New documents lodged to Mackay Regional Council reveal Hungry Jacks wants to fit out one of the two recently approved drive-through takeaway premises to be built off Superior Boulevard.
The site is next door to the Wake House overlooking Lake Poco, and opposite the Aldi supermarket, with access from Superior Bvd as well as left-hand entry only from Beaconsfield Rd East.
Plans show the proposed Hungry Jacks restaurant will have 50 seats for eat-in customers and outside, there is a dual-lane drive-through with canopy cover, 16 car parks plus four spots for bicycles.
But instead of the originally-approved 180sq m gross floor area, the developer is proposing 240sq m, requiring the development application to come back before council for approval.
Documents state the increased size will not significantly impact traffic flow or dramatically change the built form in terms of scale or appearance.
They further state all sewer, stormwater, water, electrical, telecommunications, earthworks and road works for the restaurant are already complete.
If council approves the minor change, Hungry Jacks will follow in McDonald’s footsteps, which opened its Andergrove drive-through in April 2022, becoming the suburb’s second drive-through after Brodies.
Brisbane-based Halfback is behind the development, after purchasing the land for $1.1m in February 2019.
Halfback had also owned the formerly vacant large lot across the road from Poco Place, which it sold to Aldi Foods in April 2022 for more than $3.6m.
