A humble northside suburb could soon become Mackay’s next fast-food hotspot with two new drive-throughs getting the green light.

Mackay Regional Council has approved Halfback’s application to build two food and drink outlets over two stages at 2 Poco Place in Andergrove which adjoins the Wake House car park.

The Brisbane-based developer bought the land for $1.1m in February 2019, adding to its investments which include two commercial precincts in Woodridge.

Halfback had also owned the formerly vacant large lot across the road from Poco Place, which it sold to Aldi Foods in April 2022 for more than $3.6m.

Documents state Halfback will first build the food and drink outlet closest to Beaconsfield Rd, with both it and the second store designed to maximise views of Lake Poco, the smaller of the master planned estate’s two lakes.

But Mackay patrons will need to wait longer to find out what food will be on offer with plans stating Halfback would submit designs once it had found site operators.

The new stores will follow in McDonald’s footsteps, which opened its Andergrove drive-through in April, 2022, becoming the suburb’s second drive-through after Brodies.
