A man in his 40s remains in a critical condition in hospital after a horror two-car crash that blocked the Bruce Highway north of Mackay for several hours.

A man in his 40s remains critically injured in hospital after a two-car crash that blocked the Bruce Highway north of Mackay for several hours.
Emergency services including a rescue helicopter was called to the highway, near McLeans Rd at Kuttabul just before 9am Wednesday.
Queensland Police Service District Duty Officer Senior Sergeant Lisa Mansfield who was on scene said a silver Toyota ute towing a caravan was hit by a silver station wagon which came out of Narpi Rd and as a result, the driver of the station wagon was trapped in the car.
The man, a 41 year old who had been residing in the Mackay region, was freed from the car just after 9.30am.
He was taken to Mackay Base Hospital in a life-threatening condition at 10.15am and later flown to Townsville University Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
The Bruce Highway was closed in both directions causing major delays north and south bound.
Two other people were assessed following the incident but refused further treatment.
Both lanes are closed with a long line of vehicles already banked up on the north lane.
The forensic crash unit is investigating the collision.
