Lake Macdonald crash: Male driver from Gympie dies after car smashes into power pole

A 22-year-old Gympie man has died after the car he was driving left the road and hit a power pole and tree on the Sunshine Coast.

A man has died at the scene of a single-vehicle crash on the Sunshine Coast.

Police say the car he was driving left Cooroy Noosa Road at Lake Macdonald and crashed into a power pole and tree about 10.30pm on Wednesday, August 25, 2022.

The man, from Gympie, was the sole occupant of the car.

Delays were expected on Cooroy Noosa Road this morning as damage to electrical infrastructure was repaired.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads website says Cooroy Noosa Rd between Hayward Rd and Dath Henderson Rd was cut down to one lane.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances of the crash. Anyone with information, relevant CCTV or dashcam footage is urged to contact police.

Meanwhile, police have released footage of the moment a rider nearly collided with a police motorcycle while on the wrong side of the road in the Sunshine Coast hinterland.

Up to 38 arrests for 53 charges have flowed since the conclusion of Operation Hills by the Sunshine Coast Highway Patrol which took place over August 20-21, 2022.

Of the arrests the most serious occurred about 7.40am along Maleny Stanley River Rd at Wootha.
