An Australian property development giant is seeking an extension to a mega Ipswich development, which will secure space for more than 100 new homes.
Walker Corporation – the country’s largest private property development company – has asked the Ipswich City Council for changes to a major multifaceted development application at Bundamba.
The company hopes to convert 21.74ha of land at 88 Hume Dr into 123 lots and a separate piece of land as part of the extension to the development, which already includes units, houses, a truck depot and a shopping centre.
A similar plan was approved by the former Ipswich City Council in 2015 but it expires on November 21.
Walker Corporation, on behalf of Walker Bremer Park Pty Ltd and Seahampton Pty Ltd, is asking the new council to grant them a two-year extension period to reconfigure the lots.
They have also requested the preliminary approval to override the planning scheme in accordance with the residential low density zone, local retail and commercial zone, and the regional business and industry buffer zone.
The development is within the masterplan for Bundamba’s Citiswich Estate, which is Queensland’s largest industrial estate and is home to a range of industries.
Just an hour southwest of Brisbane, the mammoth estate hosts high profile companies such as Costco, Travel Centre, Telstra, FedEx and more.
According to the Financial Review, Walker Bremer Park Pty Ltd came to fruition in 2006 when Lang Walker’s Walker Corporation joined the listed minnow Bremer Park to develop the Bremer Business Park – now known as Citiswich.
Seahampton Pty Ltd also has a stake in the Citiswich land.
Despite the joint companies seeking an extension on its approval to further develop the land at 88 Hume Dr, it has been listed for sale by Brisbane-based commercial real estate Colliers.
Expressions of interest for a stake in the billion-dollar estate closes on Friday, November 18.
