A spokesperson for Ipswich Grammar School said: “At Ipswich Grammar School we make no apologies for our unrelentingly strong focus on literacy and numeracy implemented through our Explicit Teaching framework – in fact, it is central to what we do every day.”

“Being an all-boys school also allows us to focus entirely on a style of teaching and learning that boys respond to and since introducing explicit teaching in late 2016, we have seen the literacy and numeracy standards of our boys increase significantly.”

The top performing Year 9 school was Ipswich Girls‘ Grammar School, in East Ipswich, where the average yearly result was 3077.5 over the five years.
