Police have charged a southwest man with the alleged murder of a much-loved Toowoomba mum who was shot and killed in broad daylight.

About 72 hours after a Toowoomba mother was shot and killed in broad daylight, police arrested the alleged gunman who they say was on the run in Roma.

Officers arrested 29-year-old James Joel Ramsey 400km west of Toowoomba at Roma on Saturday, March 1, and charged him with the murder of Kara Weribone.

“A 29-year-old man has been charged with murder with reckless indifference following investigations into the death of a 27-year-old woman in North Toowoomba on Wednesday,” a Queensland Police media report stated.

“The man was arrested in Roma at 11.35am (on Saturday) and has since been charged with murder with reckless indifference.”

The much-loved 27-year-old mother of three died after she was shot in Christmas Street, North Toowoomba, on February 26.

It’s alleged a 27-year-old Wilsonton man was seriously injured during the incident.

A Toyota Camry seen fleeing the scene was located a short time after in Gladstone Street, about a kilometre west of the shooting.

Mr Ramsey, who recently relocated to Toowoomba from southwest Queensland, has been remanded in custody at the Toowoomba watch house.

His matters were briefly mentioned in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Monday where a full brief of evidence was ordered.

The case will return to the same court on April 21.

It is not yet known if he intends to make a bail application.

Police are still appealing for people to come forward with information, particularly anyone who may have dashcam footage of Christmas Street, West Street, or Gladstone Street around the time of the alleged murder on Wednesday around 1:50pm.
