An independent analysis of newly-released 2022 NAPLAN results has revealed the schools which performed the best in the Year 5 and Year 9 tests.

Ipswich Girls‘ Grammar School including Ipswich Junior Grammar School, in East Ipswich, had better primary results than any other school in Ipswich, scoring an average of 551.6 across the five test subjects.

Ipswich Grammar School was the second best for the region with an average score of 537.0, while Mount Marrow State School in Mount Marrow was the third best with an average score of 532.8.

The top performing secondary school was Ipswich Grammar School, in Ipswich, with the average result was 629.8.

Ipswich Girls‘ Grammar School including Ipswich Junior Grammar School in East Ipswich was the second best for the region with an average score of 620.4, while St Peters Lutheran College Springfield in Springfield Central was the third best with an average score of 598.2.

Ipswich Grammar School Headmaster Richard Morrison says the improvement in the schools scoring can be attributed to a new teaching framework bought in several years ago.

“The decision was made 6 years ago to introduce the Explicit Teaching framework and develop an unrelenting focus on literacy and numeracy – an approach we make no apologies for,” he said.

As a result of this focus and good teaching practice, our boys excel in literacy and numeracy and we’re bucking the trend that has been commented on in the media so widely that boys are struggling to read and write.”

At the other end of the scale for primary schools was Leichardt State School, who scored 410.2, and for secondary was the Hymba Yumba Independent School with a score of 507.2.

HOW GATTON SCHOOLS PERFORMED

In primary, Our Lady of Good Counsel School had a 471.80 averaging, while Peace Lutheran Primary School scored an average of 462.40.

Gatton State School was on 448.20. In secondary, Lockyer District State High School had an average of 534.

To determine how each school performed in 2022, the scores for all five test subjects for the student cohort (Yr 5 or Yr 9) were combined and the average found.

Special schools, schools with fewer than 20 students enrolled, and schools that did not report any results for NAPLAN subjects were excluded from the analysis.

The figures were independently compiled from the Federal Government‘s MySchool website.
