UPDATE: Former rodeo champ's sale rained out, now back on

'People kept showing up and we had to turn them away'

Farm clearance sale

UPDATE:

LARKHILL man Ken Consiglio had spent weeks preparing to say goodbye to most of his collection, but when the big day arrived the weather had other ideas.

The former rodeo champ is selling everything from old farm tools to a lifetime's worth of horse gear, vintage cow bells and original cream cans.

It was all meant to be gone by now, but the sale was rained out and Ken ended up having to ride horse to the property gates to let people know they'd have to come back another day.

Well Saturday is that day and the sun is expected to be shining.

"Plenty of people turned up, which was a good sign," Mr Consiglio said.

"There were lots of people actually, they just kept coming. But we had to call it off, it was just too wet."

The clearance sale, details and photos below, will be on Saturday, September 24 on Larkhill Rd, Larkhill at 10am.

There will be signs directing people from Marburg Glamorganvale Rd and items can be viewed from 9am.

Ken says if anyone would like to hear some stories from his days as a rodeo man, which included riding in front of the Queen during one of her royal visits in the 1960s, they are welcome to stay for a drink after the sale.

A FORMER rodeo champion is selling everything on his Larkhill property from horse drawn sulkies to antique metal bath feet.

Ken Consiglio is even putting his invention, a stand for shoeing horses, up for sale as he prepares to retire to a little brick home on just two and a half acres.

Auctioneer Rod Statham has been carefully placing tickets on each of the items going under the hammer on Saturday, but Ken keeps following him around and taking the tickets off.

He says it's hard to part with everything, but he's hoping his antique items, old farm tools and vintage cow bells, will go to good homes.

There are literally hundreds of lots up for sale including a rare, collector's tractor - a FIAT 1968, countless bridles and a few saddles, and a small truck for moving cattle.

There are even old crutches used by the property's former owner and an original, wooden barn ladder which Mr Statham says is every vintage-inspired home decorator's dream.

"I have worked all my life and built everything," Ken said.

"I did all the fencing, that's what we did in the younger days."

As part of doing the hard work as a young lad, Ken nearly decapitated himself while using a chainsaw inside the pig sty.

The chainsaw bucked up and doctors told Ken he was millimetres away from nicking his jugular.

But instead of rushing to the hospital Ken decided to pull in at the neighbour's and show them his fresh wound.

"I pulled into the garage, because I knew the people there, and the tenant was talking to this woman and she was annoying me so I said, 'excuse me, can you take me to the doctor?' and pulled the towel away from my neck," Ken said, laughing at the memory of shocking his friends as blood poured down his neck.

"I've got to move on now.

"I will probably travel around Australia and pick up some old rodeo mates, sit around, tell stories."
