THE new community of Providence at Ripley is taking shape with 400 lots sold in less than 18 months and 50 families now calling the area home.

THE new community of Providence at Ripley is taking shape with 400 lots sold in less than 18 months and 50 families now calling the area home.

The centrepiece of the first stages of the development, the $6.6 million Providence Centre and adjoining District Park, is on track to open early next year.

Located off Providence Parade, Providence's District Park features the $3.4 million Splash 'n' Play Water Park, which will be a major drawcard for families across the region.

The District Park's adventure playground features are already adding colour to the construction site and the water park will feature a maze of aqua arches, "misty mountains", 4m high water spurts and a toddlers area with "wiggly" sprayers and mist.

The Splash 'N' Play Water Park is set to open in late February while the Providence Centre and café is on track to open at the end of March.

Property group Amex Corporation have staged development of the 670ha Ripley site over 20 years, with Providence expected to ultimately be a community of 20,000 people.

The 400th buyers - Anna Brandt and Corey Athanates from Brassall - purchased in "The Hub", close to the future town centre, and are making plans to build their dream four-bedroom home.

Ms Brandt said they fell in love with the location, the layout of the community and overall look of the area.

"This location is ideal for us as it's close to work, family and friends," she said.

"It's a new community so everything in the area will be new, and because of that we know it will be a young area filled with other young people with a great family atmosphere."

Providence Director Michael Khan said welcoming 50 families to Providence was a milestone and the community vibe was building.

"Construction vehicle movement is at an all-time high and we now have over 500 lots under construction," Mr Khan said.

"Land releases are being brought forward to meet demand from potential purchasers and we've recently launched three new neighbourhoods to suit many lifestyle needs."

The neighbourhoods feature stunning views of Flinders Peak, and future parkland and sports grounds are to be developed according to the plan.
