IF YOU have a cool million dollars burning a hole in your pocket you might have enough to make a bid on the old Ipswich fire station.

The former fire station on the corner of Limestone and Waghorn sts in the CBD went to auction late last week but was passed in.

Marketing agent Cheryl Kermond of First National Real Estate in Ipswich said the bidding stopped at $1.05 million.

"There are two interested parties we are talking to," Ms Kermond said.

"There were three registered bidders at the auction. The property was passed in after the bidding got to $1.05 million.

"We're hoping to have an answer from the State Government, which owns the site, by the end of the week."

Last year, it was announced that after almost 50 years, the familiar Ipswich fire station would be shut and sold.

The station closed in July and was replaced by the Ripley fire station which opened last month and the Brassall station that opened several weeks before.

Ms Kermond said the fire station had hot potential, being on prime land in a position overlooking the city.

"It's zoned CBD Top of Town and it could be for mixed use. It could have up to five storeys at the back of the block and it has terrific views," she said.
