An Ipswich police officer accused of a drunken crash on-duty has had his court date pushed back over a month for his lawyers to prepare a swath of materials.
Yamanto senior constable Timothy Lawrence Shepherd, 41, is charged with one count of driving under the influence of liquor.
It is alleged Mr Shepherd drove a police vehicle on the job with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.177 per cent and crashed into another car at Yamanto earlier this year.
The two occupants of the other vehicle were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and Mr Shepherd was stood down from duty and charged.
Mr Shepherd was expected to plead guilty at a sentence hearing on Thursday, February 23, but the matter was pushed back instead.
He did not attend court in person, but was represented by defence lawyer Elisabeth Baulch of Gnech and Associates Lawyers.
Ms Baulch told the court the defence was still waiting to receive a medical report which they intended to rely upon at sentence.
She also requested the matter be listed for a lengthy plea, which would take more time than the matter was originally allotted.
Ms Baulch explained the defence had decided to make lengthier submissions “given the nature of Mr Shepherd’s employment”
She said there would also be a significant amount of material they intended to rely upon.
The matter was adjourned to April 20 for sentence, and Mr Shepherd’s bail was enlarged.
A Queensland Police spokesperson confirmed on February 23 that Mr Shepherd remains stood down from duty at this time.
