Ripley woman charged with attempted murder after baby girl stabbed has matter mentioned in Ipswich court

There has been a devastating update following an alleged attempted murder at an Ipswich home at the weekend, where a baby was found with a stab wound.

An Ipswich woman charged with the attempted murder of a three-month-old baby found with an abdominal stab wound Saturday was suffering post-partum depression, a court has heard.

Ipswich Magistrates Court heard the woman, who cannot be named, was currently undergoing urgent mental health treatment while in custody.

Emergency services were called to a home in Ripley around 5.30am on Saturday, February 10, after reports of an alleged wounding.

Police found the child with what appeared to be a stab wound, and gave immediate first aid.

The child was taken to hospital in a critical condition, and police took the woman, who lived at the home, with the child into custody.

The 26-year-old Ripley woman’s matter was briefly brought before court on Monday, February 12, however it was adjourned for one day.

On Tuesday, the court heard from the woman’s lawyer she had suffered effects from “obvious” post-partum depression.

“She has been seen by prison mental health and has undergone a psychiatric assessment and a request, following that consultation, has been made for a classified bed,” the lawyer said.

“I will not make a bail application until there is some resolution of her psychiatric illness,” he said.

The matter was adjourned to March 1, 2024 for a committal mention and the woman was remanded in custody.
