A 21-year-old man has faced an Ipswich court accused of driving into a parked truck and seriously injuring three passengers while unlicensed.
Redbank resident Corey Jonse Evans, 21, attended Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on December 8 for the matter’s mention.
He was arrested in September for charges including dangerous operation of a vehicle causing grievous bodily harm.
It is understood that charge relates to three alleged victims.
Police will allege Mr Evans was driving a white Ford Falcon sedan in Chris Street, Redbank, on March 18.
It’s alleged he then struck a parked truck around 11.11pm, causing the car to catch fire.
Mr Evans and his four passengers were initially trapped inside the car, but were freed before the flames took hold.
A male in his 20s with head injuries and a stable teenage girl with minor injuries were both taken to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
Two other people were taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital: A man in his 20s with a significant arm injury and a woman in her 20s with head and pelvis injuries.
On December 8, defence lawyer Matthew Fairclough told the court the defence were still waiting on a brief of evidence from the prosecution.
The matter was adjourned to February 2, 2024, for the prosecution to disclose the brief to the defence.
Mr Evans’ bail was enlarged, and he was allowed to leave the court freely.
In addition to the dangerous operation, Mr Evans is charged with driving without a licence, driving while over the no alcohol limit but under the general alcohol limit (while he was not the holder of a driver’s licence), driving a defective light motor vehicle, altering number plates, and using a vehicle with altered number plates.
