A southeast Queensland court has heard wild allegations that a woman was tied up and assaulted by multiple people in a “protracted ordeal” involving a “Medieval-style” bat at an Ipswich home yesterday.

An Ipswich mother has faced court after a woman was allegedly held against her will and assaulted in a “protracted ordeal” involving a “Medieval-style” bat at an Ipswich home on December 20.

Raceview mum Rachel Ann Faulkner was charged with deprivation of liberty, assault occasioning bodily harm and common assault.

She made an application for bail in Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, December 21.

Acting Magistrate Paul Byrne said it was alleged a woman was “subjected to a protracted ordeal” at a property on Cemetery Rd in Eastern Heights on Wednesday.

He said the allegations included that the victim was “tied up with cord” in an assault involving the use of a “Medieval-style’’ bat.

Defence lawyer Matthew Fairclough said the property belonged to one of his client’s co-accused.

He said the material gave no explanation for what was alleged to have occurred.

“It simply says three people – being the two complainants and a third unidentified person – go to the address of one of the accused and are assaulted by multiple people,” Mr Fairclough said.

He said the material did not clearly identify what his client was accused of doing throughout the alleged events, or how significant her role was alleged to be.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Bridie O’Shea said the woman called triple-0 after the alleged incident.

She provided police with immediate descriptions of her alleged attackers.

Senior Constable O’Shea said the woman identified Ms Faulkner, whom the woman said she knew personally.

The court heard police used a dog squad to track Ms Faulkner and two others to a nearby street.

Senior Constable O’Shea said police had already identified fingerprints of two co-accused on the bat, indicating the evidence was “starting to support the victim’s version of events”.

Mr Fairclough said his client denied the allegations against her “quite categorically”.

But Mr Byrne said Ms Faulkner had a significant criminal history.

He viewed her as an unacceptable risk of failing to appear or endangering the safety of the alleged victim.

He refused her bail and remanded her in custody for mention on January 12, 2024.
