A Lockyer Valley dad has faced an Ipswich court charged with 18 offences after he allegedly tortured his partner.

A Lockyer Valley dad has faced an Ipswich court charged with 18 offences after he allegedly assaulted his partner.

Alex Colin Blake, 31, was charged with a string of offences including choking, suffocation and strangulation, assault occasioning bodily harm and torture. No please have been entered.

The Regency Downs man applied for bail on Tuesday, July 9, in Ipswich Magistrates Court.

The court heard the alleged offences occurred from October 1 last year to February 17.

He allegedly carried out prolonged physical assault and emotional abuse on his partner, the court heard.

Crown Prosecutor Ashleigh Wakefield read out harrowing alleged details from a statement made by Mr Blake’s partner.

“The defendant (Mr Blake) flicked a knife back into the sink because she was being loud,” she said.

“He was saying … do you just want me to go to jail? The cops are still out there.

“He said to me, who cares if I’m still going to jail? I’ll get you anyway.”

Defence lawyer Paddy O’Donnell said Mr Blake was a qualified butcher and had five children.

He also said Mr Blake completed two rehabilitation courses while in custody.

“I put forward that (he would) be willing to wear an electronic monitoring device and be willing to report,” he said.

Magistrate Melanie Ho said Mr Blake was on parole from the Brisbane District Court on May 26, 2023, for unlawful assault occasioning bodily harm, for which he was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment.

“He’s also dealt with concurrent sentences on August 1, 2023, in relation to a motor vehicle offending where he’s received two years’ imprisonment,” she said.

Ms Ho refused the bail application.

His matter was adjourned to Friday, July 12, for committal mention.
