Grantham tradesman Dion Reginald Swanson spent a night in the Toowoomba watch-house after he was arrested for repeatedly brutalising his partner with a metal dog bowl.
The Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard the violent assault occurred at the pair’s Grantham home on Tuesday morning, July 7.
The court heard Swanson began arguing with the woman because he wanted to see her phone which resulted in a physical altercation in the kitchen, which spilled into the lounge room.
At one point the woman was lying over the back of a couch when Swanson picked up a metal dog bowl and hit her over the back of the head.
He followed her back into the kitchen where he again hit her in the back of the head with the metal bowl.
She then threw a cup of hot tea at the man before he punched her in the face, “severely” splitting open the woman’s lip.
A report was made to police when the woman was being treated in hospital, and the court heard when officers took up with Swanson in the waiting area he insisted she had, “slipped over and bumped her lip”.
Swanson refused to partake in an interview after his arrest, however when he appeared in court via video link, he pleaded guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm.
The tradesman was sentenced to a three-year probation order and no conviction was recorded.
